The QUAD Alliance Observatory


The Quad Alliance Observatory (QAO) is a Public Diplomacy (PD) initiative by the Indian Forum for Public Diplomacy (IFPD), that promotes dialogue, discourse, deliberation, advocacy and Public Diplomacy between the QUAD countries i.e., India, United States of America (USA), Australia and Japan; primarily through young academia via cross-cultural, community driven initiatives by engaging think-tanks, organisations, institutions, policy makers, academicians, experts and other stakeholders. The initiative aims to drive public discussion on QUAD, assess its performance, analyse its strategic relevance, promote its collective interests and influence its policy making.

About QUAD

The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, also referred to as QUAD is an informal strategic forum comprising of four states, namely – United States (USA), India, Australia and Japan with a shared vision of promoting free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific Region. The group anchors democratic values and shared interests and strives for growth and prosperity of the region through co-operation on various fronts such as economy and trade, defence, maritime security, global health, climate change, terrorism, technology, among others, that address
themes of mutual interest. Known to be an ‘alliance of maritime democracies’, the group envisages shared growth and prosperity, unconstrained by coercion, and conducts regular meetings and summits at various levels and holds joint bi-lateral, tri-lateral and multilateral military exercises to advance the interests of the Indo-Pacific region.

Our Objectives:

  • To encourage conversations on Quadrilateral Security (QUAD) and promote
  • International Relations between the QUAD countries through dialogue, debate,
  • discourse and deliberation with various organisations, institutions, civil societies in the QUAD, QUAD plus countries, and Indo-Pacific region.
  • To promote mutual interests between QUAD countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
  • To assess, introspect and investigate developments, and influence interests and priorities of QUAD.
  • To encourage cross-cultural and multi-cultural exchange of ideas and drive community centred initiatives in the region.
  • To encourage young academia participate in International Relations through civil-society led and community driven initiatives.
  • To connect young academia to policy makers, diplomats, academicians, experts and veterans in security and strategy and promote understanding of strategic developments in the region.
  • To consolidate the expertise of various policy makers, experts and academicians in the QUAD countries to encourage exchange of ideas and promote knowledge repository on QUAD.
