Workshop on Rationality of War & Game Theory

The Rationality of War and Game Theory (RWGT) is a flagship quarterly lecture series of IFPD that has been successfully delivered to more than 3000 candidates across different disciplines since 2020. With its unique design, personalised mentorship, interactive learning, and intriguing case studies, the course offers an impeccably unique perspective on global affairs and security issues like no other!

Using game theory as a framework of analysis, the course untangles the central puzzles of war and addresses why in an era where diplomacy and means of co-operation have evolved enormously, war still viewed as an option? Are wars rational? If not, what conditions prompt nations to go to war? What are the underlying considerations, calculations, factors, cost-benefit analysis, threat assessments used by state or an actor to initiate a conflict?

Rationality of war is a comprehensive one-week lecture series that addresses the key question of ‘Why do wars happen?’ or ‘Why do states chose to go to wars?’

The workshop enables young minds understand not only the underlying causes of war, but also help them think strategically. The workshop is a honest attempt to filter down the root causes of military conflicts to general public, especially the youth, as democratic public must be educated and informed on rationality of war as they are the ultimate consumers and producers of conflict. The course has received an extremely positive feedback from candidates across various disciplines ranging from undergraduates, graduates, Ph.D candidates, and even working professionals.
